Thirteen segments, 2,426 metres, paved end to end

Roberts Creek Road runs from the Sunshine Coast Highway down to the shoreline in Electoral Area D of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. The BC Digital Road Atlas, queried on 12 September 2026, records it as 13 segments totalling 2,426 metres with a paved surface on every one. The south end sits at 49.41867, -123.64164 and the north end at 49.43512, -123.64895. Traffic can enter and leave at both ends, which is not true of most of the roads around it.

Three civic numbers on this one road do most of the work in Roberts Creek. Roberts Creek Pier Park is 999. Roberts Creek Elementary, with 315 students enrolled, is 1088. The fire hall is 1302, and the BC Address Geocoder fixes it at 49.42954, -123.64981. Official Community Plan Bylaw 641 puts the commercial focus of the whole plan area at "the intersection of Roberts Creek Road, Beach Avenue and Lower Road", zoned for "small scale commercial units that have a rural, natural ambience", and places the community hall and the fire hall together at the north end near the highway.

The mandala is painted at the foot of this road

The regional district's own park listing gives the pier address as 999 Roberts Creek Road and describes it as sitting "at the foot of Roberts Creek Road in the heart of downtown Roberts Creek". There is parking at the pier, four washroom facilities with two of them wheelchair accessible, picnic tables near the parking area and wooden benches along the pier itself. At low tide a sandbar opens toward the beach. The SCRD also calls the site "the popular location of the annual community painting of the mandala (Sanskrit word for circle)."

Bylaw 641 records Roberts Creek Pier Park as 0.8 hectares, or 2 acres, at the bottom of the road. It separately lists Roberts Creek Hall Park as 1.6 hectares of undeveloped land behind the hall, bisected by a road allowance and containing a septic field. The mandala was started 28 years ago by Robert Marion and Erica Snowlake. In 2024 a youth team of Emily Webster, Sol Battaglio and Molly Riepe brought it back with muralist Dean Schutz, beginning the design on 4 August and finishing by 10 August in time for Creek Daze.

This is such an important tradition to everyone on the Sunshine Coast. We didn't want to see it not happen this year.

Below number 1088 the SCRD says the fire flow is low

This road lies below Highway 101 for its whole length, so it is inside the regional water service area described in OCP section 13 and its houses are metered. Meters went in across the system in 2016 and 2017. A meter raises a flag for staff only after water has run continuously for 15 consecutive days, the district states that it is not obligated to notify residents about potential leaks, and word usually arrives in the quarterly bill.

Having a main is not the same as having pressure. The SCRD's Fire Flow Action Plan of June 2026, budgeted at $31 million over ten years, names "low flow south of Roberts Creek Park and the elementary school" as a priority for new mains. The school is 1088. Everything below that number, including the pier end and the three-way junction at the village, is the stretch the district has put on its own deficiency list.

The hall on this road is the only one in the fire protection area

The Roberts Creek Volunteer Fire Department has operated from 1302 Roberts Creek Road since 1969 and covers roughly 28.5 square kilometres. Its published roster is 25: six officers under Fire Chief Patrick Higgins, 17 firefighters, one junior member and two recruits for 2026. From this address it is 10.5 kilometres and 12 minutes to Sechelt Hospital, and 11.8 kilometres to the RCMP detachment on Teredo Street. Houses here are the closest in Area D to all of it. That did not stop thieves cutting the lock on the hall compound in September 2023 and draining a significant volume of diesel.

What a check on Roberts Creek Road covers

  • The water meter read and logged, since a continuous leak runs 15 days before anyone is told
  • Doors, windows and outbuildings tried by hand, including anything facing the pier parking lot
  • Heat holding, or the system drained with the shut-off confirmed closed
  • Ceilings, crawlspace and under-sink fittings after rain, on a lot below the highway with a main in the road
  • Roof, gutters and any tree leaning over the BC Hydro service drop
  • Fuel, tools and small machinery in sheds, given the September 2023 theft from the fire hall compound itself
  • Mail, flyers and parcels cleared so the house does not advertise that it is empty
  • Driveway and its culvert where it meets a road used by every visitor going to the beach
  • A dated, photographed record of all of the above, filed the day of the visit

Insurers write an unoccupied-dwelling clause into most home policies. It requires the house to be entered and looked over on a fixed cycle through the heating months, in many wordings at gaps of four days or less, unless the supply has been turned off and the lines drained. Wordings differ, so check what your own policy actually says before settling on a frequency.

What it costs

A scheduled check at Roberts Creek Road is $55 a visit, plus $10 travel. The travel charge is the same everywhere between Gibsons and Egmont. There is no minimum term and no joining fee. See the full price list.
