Eight hundred and thirty-one metres on the upper bench

Day Road leaves Lockyer Road at 49.44222, -123.64177 and runs east to end at 49.44176, -123.63157. The province's road atlas, read on 12 September 2026, gives four segments totalling 831 metres, of which 817 metres are paved and a 13-metre section is recorded as loose.

That position puts it roughly a kilometre north of the Sunshine Coast Highway, on the upper bench, and makes it one of the highest of the roads in this group. It is not a shoreline road and it is not a through connector between two main routes. It is a short branch off the long climb that Lockyer Road makes into the back country.

Two named creek crossings on eight hundred metres

British Columbia's 2021 flood recovery programme records a Day Road project with two separate sites on it. One is Day Road at Gough Creek. The other is Day Road at Clack Creek. No other road in Roberts Creek carries two separately listed provincial crossing repairs in under a kilometre.

Both were damaged in the atmospheric river of November 2021. Permanent repair work began in summer 2024 and the province recorded the Day Road sites as completed in October 2025, stating that work was then finished on repairing and increasing the resiliency of Sunshine Coast locations affected by that event. Between the damage and the permanent repair, the crossings carried traffic on interim arrangements for close to four years.

What happened to access here in November 2021

On 25 November 2021 Day Road was reduced to a single lane, as were Beach Avenue and Flume Road. In its account of the emergency the regional district reported that some residents lost road access entirely. Its staff recorded nearly 40 sites across the district needing attention for washed-out sections of road, flooding and other unsafe conditions.

The regional district had opened its Emergency Operations Centre on 15 November and kept a state of local emergency running until 29 November. Gough Creek and Clack Creek are two of the watercourses named in the community plan, along with Roberts Creek itself, Flume Creek, Stephens Creek, Malcolm Creek and Grey Creek. This road crosses two of them.

For an owner away from a property on this road, that sequence is the scenario worth planning for. Two crossings between the house and the main road, both damaged at once, single-lane restrictions on the roads below, and a repair programme that took until 2025 to finish.

There is no regional main up here

Section 13 of Official Community Plan Bylaw 641 holds the regional water service area to the lower part of the community, below the Sunshine Coast Highway, and lists upper Roberts Creek, Largo Road, Lockyer Road, Flume Road and B&K Road as served by private or community wells. Day Road lies above the highway line that section draws. Owners should confirm their own connection with the SCRD water service area mapping rather than assume it, but nothing above that line is served by a regional main, and where there is no main there is no hydrant.

Water for a structure fire on this road therefore arrives on a truck. The single hall serving the area is at 1302 Roberts Creek Road, at the bottom of the Lockyer climb, and the fire protection district covers roughly 28.5 square kilometres of Electoral Area D's 143. The department's published roster is 25 people, with a full-time chief and a half-time deputy chief and training officer, and in August 2025 the regional district moved its four fire departments onto a paid-on-call footing.

Burning is governed here by a bylaw specific to Roberts Creek. The area is exempted from the standard regional burn-pile timing and works under Smoke Control Bylaw 598, which permits vegetative yard waste grown on the property to be burned in two windows only, 1 to 15 April and 15 October to 15 November. A permit for land clearing costs $25, and burning without one attracts a $250 penalty.

What a check on Day Road covers

  • Both creek crossings between the property and Lockyer Road, including scour at the abutments after heavy rain
  • Pump house, well head and pressure tank, with the pump breaker reset if the power has failed
  • Heat holding throughout, or the plumbing emptied and the pump cut out at the panel
  • Driveway, culvert and ditch, cleared of debris washed off the slope above
  • Doors, windows, outbuildings, gates and any stored fuel or machinery
  • Windfall risk above the building, the drive and the hydro line, reviewed after every wind event
  • Defensible space at the building on ground with no hydrant within reach
  • Whether the road is currently passable to a heavy vehicle, and by which approach
  • A dated photo record covering every item, filed before the day is out

Household insurance usually requires an unoccupied dwelling to be entered and looked over by a competent person on the timetable the policy sets out through the heating season, in many wordings within four consecutive days, unless the water has been shut off and the lines drained. The interval that applies to your property is the one written into your own policy, so check the clause before settling on a schedule.

What it costs

A scheduled check at Day Road is $55 a visit, plus $10 travel. The travel charge is the same everywhere between Gibsons and Egmont. There is no minimum term and no joining fee. See the full price list.
