A short road off the highway between the village and Secret Cove
Curran Road leaves Highway 101 in Electoral Area B, between Halfmoon Bay village and Secret Cove, immediately beside Brooks Road. Documented civic numbers include 5549, 5563, 5575, 5599, 5626 and 5627, and vacant-land listings such as Lot 10 still appear, so the road is not yet fully built out. Postal codes are V7Z 1B4 and V0N 1Y2. Road routing on 12 September 2026, from a point that snapped onto Brooks Road, gave 17.3 kilometres and 23 minutes to Sechelt Hospital, with the RCMP detachment on Teredo Street about two minutes beyond. Fire cover comes from the Halfmoon Bay department's two halls, one on Redrooffs Road and one on Fawn Road, staffed by 32 members under a paid full-time chief.

The Halfmoon Bay official community plan designates the land "along the highway in proximity to Curran and Brooks Road" as Rural Residential (page 24). That designation sets a minimum or average parcel size of 1.75 hectares, reducible to one hectare where specified conditions are met. Apart from Resource land, which carries a 100 hectare minimum, it is the largest-lot residential category in the plan area. Residential A, at the other end of the scale, requires only 1,000 square metres.
The effect on the ground is straightforward. Houses on parcels of that size stand well back from the road and well apart from each other, usually behind trees, often invisible from the driveway entrance. A neighbour on Curran Road may not have a sightline to the next house at all. Nothing about an empty house here is visible to a passing vehicle, which is the same reason nothing about a forced door is visible either.
A 60-metre tower was approved at 5549 Curran Road
In May 2021 the regional district granted land-use concurrence for a 60-metre Telus tower at 5549 Curran Road. It was the tallest of four towers approved that day and the only one in the Halfmoon Bay area other than a 31-metre monopole at 10264 Sunshine Coast Highway near Secret Cove, which had been cut down from an original 63-metre proposal on Mercer Road. Land-use concurrence is not the final step. Approval of a tower rests with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, and Telus was required first to address shíshálh Nation archaeological and environmental concerns. The regional district's own decision record is what stands: this stretch of highway was identified five years ago as needing a structure 60 metres tall to cover it.
That archaeological requirement is not a formality in this area. The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives records 38 protected archaeological sites in the Halfmoon Bay area, including shell middens, rock shelters and stone fish traps. The land is shíshálh Nation territory, and any ground disturbance on a large parcel here can run into a protected site.
The camera on the next road, and what the detachment counted
Before the province installed its weather station at Trout Lake, DriveBC had cameras at only three Sunshine Coast locations: Stewart, Brooks and Egmont Roads. Brooks Road is the road next to Curran. That makes this one of the very few stretches of highway on the Coast where conditions have been visible on a public camera for years, which is useful before a winter drive up from Sechelt.
The policing picture is recorded at area level rather than by road. In the fourth quarter of 2023 the RCMP logged 105 calls for service in Halfmoon Bay, of which 11 were Priority 1, producing 17 charges; the comparable figures were 125 calls in Roberts Creek and 85 in Madeira Park. That was the only quarter broken out by community. For the rural detachment as a whole in the third quarter of 2025 there were 1,279 calls for service, up 9 per cent, with Priority 1 calls up 21 per cent at 141, property crime down 11 per cent at 116, six residential break and enters, and 39 files of mischief to property.

Household insurance normally sets a ceiling on how many days an unoccupied house can go without inspection during the heating season, four consecutive days being the common figure, and requires the inspection to be made by a competent person unless the water has been shut off and the lines drained. Wordings differ, so check what your own policy requires.
