North of the harbour mouth, past Irvines Landing

Daniel Point is a headland on the north side of the entrance to Pender Harbour. BC Geographical Names adopted it as a point on 2 December 1948, on map sheet 92F/9, at 49 degrees 38 minutes 13 seconds north and 124 degrees 04 minutes 21 seconds west. It is not on Francis Peninsula. The regional district's own directions to its park here run north of Pender Harbour, left off Highway 101 onto Garden Bay Road, on to Irvines Landing Road, right onto Lee Road and, at 800 metres, left onto Orca Road.

The water pipe confirms the same thing. The North Pender Harbour water system serves Garden Bay, Irvine's Landing, Daniel Point and Sakinaw Ridge, all of them north-shore places. A parcel on the far side of the harbour would be on the South Pender system instead.

Mount Daniel, which carries the same name, sits about 4.8 kilometres due east and was adopted on the same day in 1948. The mountain is within the swiya of the shishalh Nation and is described by BC Parks as a Women's Place of high cultural importance.

Four turnings from the highway, and each is the only one

Highway 101 to Garden Bay Road to Irvines Landing Road to Lee Road to Orca Road. There is no alternative at any of those four turns. Routing from the gazetted position on 12 September 2026 measured 15.82 kilometres and 23 minutes to the Madeira Park centre, and 47.79 kilometres and 56 minutes to Sechelt Hospital. Of the fourteen places in the Pender Harbour group, that is the longest drive to both.

Daniel Point is one of the plan area's named distinct neighbourhood areas under Bylaw 708, alongside Garden Bay, Kleindale, Francis Peninsula and Irvines Landing.

The trail takes an hour to climb 2.5 kilometres

The regional district's Daniel Point park covers 1.4 hectares, or 3.6 acres, at 4190 Orca Road. Its own description gives a 2.5 kilometre trail, approximately one hour uphill, and calls it a fairly steep trail with a high level of difficulty, laid out for views over Pender Harbour and the Strait of Georgia. Regional district parks staff answer on 604-885-6802.

That gradient is the ground the houses stand on. Driveways here drop and climb, they hold ice after the road has cleared, and a delivery vehicle or a fire engine that can reach the road may still not reach the door.

The largest reservoir on the system is at the end of the pipe

Daniel Point holds 460,000 litres of treated storage, against 250,000 litres at Garden Bay. It is the biggest reservoir on the North Pender Harbour system, which had about 583 service connections and delivered 241 million litres in 2021.

All of that water is drawn from Garden Bay Lake, treated at a plant built in 1985 on the lake's southeast side, and pushed out along Irvines Landing Road. Daniel Point is the far end of that line. The regional district's June 2026 fire flow study found severe deficiencies on both Pender Harbour water systems, with the Dogwood Reservoir off-line. Pressure problems anywhere on a system are felt hardest at its end.

Fire cover comes from Hall 2 at 13303 Deller Road in Garden Bay, roughly five to six kilometres away by Irvines Landing Road. That puts Daniel Point inside the eight kilometres the department's own guidance says insurers look for. The hall holds two engines with 1,600 US gallons between them, and there is no tender at either Pender Harbour hall.

Everything that closes Irvines Landing Road closes this address

The single access chain has two documented weak points. The curve above Mixal Lake, built in 1936, has no barrier and drops to about 25 feet of water; it was the Area A director's leading road request in December 2025. The Irvines Landing hill is the other. In the snow of 3 and 4 February 2025 a snowplow went into the ditch on that hill, an ambulance running a Garden Bay call got stuck at the bottom with chains fitted, turned on Lee Road and stuck a second time, and the heavy tow truck sent after it went into the ditch as well.

What a check at Daniel Point covers

  • The descent of the driveway off Orca or Lee Road, checked for ice, washout and loose surface
  • Gate, doors, windows, sheds and the crawlspace hatch, each one tried rather than looked over
  • Heat on and holding, or the system drained with the shut-off confirmed closed
  • Water pressure at a tap, since this address sits at the end of the North Pender main
  • Any vehicle, trailer or boat parked on a slope, including its chocks and parking brake
  • Roof, gutters and the overhead service drop, with any tree leaning toward either
  • Exposed west-facing glass, siding and flashing after a winter southeaster
  • Septic tank lid and field, and standing water above either after heavy rain
  • Photographs of every item with the date, sent the same day

Most insurers set a maximum gap between inspections of an empty house through the heating season, four consecutive days in many wordings, and require the person doing it to be competent, unless the water is turned off and the system drained. The wording is not the same at every company, so read your own before you decide how often someone should attend.

What it costs

A scheduled check at Daniel Point is $55 a visit, plus $10 travel. The travel charge is the same everywhere between Gibsons and Egmont. There is no minimum term and no joining fee. See the full price list.
