The turning that every north-side road depends on
Kleindale is a locality at the head of Pender Harbour, where Garden Bay Road leaves Highway 101. BC Geographical Names adopted the name on 13 May 1983 and Kleindale Creek on 31 March 1983, both on map sheet 92G/12. That is the same sheet as Secret Cove and Middlepoint, and a different one from Garden Bay and Gunboat Bay, which are on 92F/9. The gazetteer's category is Locality, a step below the Community classification it gives Garden Bay.
Traffic for Garden Bay, Hospital Bay, Irvines Landing, Daniel Point, Hotel Lake, Mixal Lake, Katherine Lake, Dream Valley and Sakinaw Ridge turns at this junction. Nothing reaches any of them without passing through. Road routing on 12 September 2026 put the Madeira Park centre 8.03 kilometres and 10 minutes away, which makes Kleindale the closest of the north-side places to Sechelt and the only one that is not on a dead end.
Harbour Publishing draws the boundary at a farm gate
The clearest published description of how far Kleindale extends comes from Harbour Publishing's account of Howard White and Cathy Rust's book The Little Green Valley: The Kleindale Story. It gives the area as the ground along Highway 101 from the foot of Misery Mile up to the local high school, and down Garden Bay Road to Percival's Black Angus Farm. The same description calls the valley "famous for its extreme weather, for its llamas, and for the notorious Kleins who settled it", and records that the large Klein family arrived in 1912 and set up logging and sawmill operations, supplying the timbers for the first Lumberman's Arch in Vancouver's Stanley Park.
The high school at the eastern limit is Pender Harbour Elementary and Secondary, 13639 Sunshine Coast Highway.
Four hectares is the minimum parcel on the reserve land
Kleindale is the only farming area in the Egmont and Pender Harbour plan. The plan states that commercial agricultural operations take place on privately owned Agricultural Land Reserve properties in the Kleindale area on Garden Bay Road, and that the land is to stay in the reserve with a minimum parcel size designation of 4 hectares. Elsewhere in the plan area new residential lots average 2,000 square metres.
That changes what an absent owner is leaving behind. A four-hectare parcel usually carries outbuildings, a barn or shop, fencing, standing equipment and often livestock under someone else's daily care. A machine left outdoors from October to April is a separate item from the house.
Twenty-five fire calls in 2025, and the hall is in Madeira Park
The Pender Harbour Volunteer Fire Department breaks its annual figures into five areas. In 2025 Kleindale accounted for 25 of 229 calls. Hall 1, at 4990 Gonzales Road in Madeira Park, is the closer of the two halls. The department's own list of questions insurers ask owners covers distance from a hall, with a better rate inside 5 miles or 8 kilometres, and whether there are hydrants near the house. Kleindale draws on the South Pender Harbour water system, which takes its water from McNeill Lake with Harris Lake as a backup, and is not connected to the North Pender system that starts a few hundred metres up Garden Bay Road.
The Suncoaster Trail and the highway are the same pavement here
The regional trail runs Earls Cove to Tyner Baker Park in four sections. Its own map shows the trail following the Sunshine Coast Highway between McKay Road and Menacher Road, which is the Kleindale stretch. The map warns users to expect motorized vehicles and industrial equipment on those sections.
That stretch of highway is also where the harbour's road failures land. On 27 December 2022 a bank failure of about 100 tonnes near Francis Peninsula Road closed Highway 101 in both directions for three and a half hours. On 24 October 2023 a pole was struck in the 12000 block and lines came down across the road. In August 2026 the Earls Cove ferry queue reached back past Ruby Lake and blocked the Jervis Inlet Road and Egmont Road junctions, with one resident reporting volunteer firefighters unable to leave their own road. When the highway shuts anywhere between here and Sechelt, there is no second route.

Insurers commonly require that an unoccupied house be entered and inspected on a fixed cycle through the heating months, in many wordings not more than four consecutive days apart, unless the supply is shut and the system drained. The exact clause varies by company, so check yours before fixing an interval.

everywhere between Gibsons and Egmont. There is no minimum term and no joining fee.
