The main nucleus of homes at Ruby Lake
Hallowell Road leaves the Sunshine Coast Highway on the west side and runs along the southeast shore of Ruby Lake. The provincial address geocoder puts 15376 Hallowell Rd at 49.70971 north and 123.97319 west, with the locality given as Ruby Lake. The regional district's evacuation plan describes the road in one line:

That makes this road the residential part of the lake. The remaining houses are either on highway frontage or on shores the plan records as water or trail access only.
The house numbers interleave with the highway numbers
Addresses here carry the postal code V0N 2H1 and a Madeira Park mailing address, although the road is about 27 kilometres north of Madeira Park and roughly fifteen minutes from Egmont. Documented numbers on the road include 15366 and 15376, and the 15200 block. They share one number series with the highway frontage at Ruby Lake, where the Iris Griffith centre is 15200, Ruby Lake Resort is 15426 and Dan Bosch Park is 15555. A number in the 15300s can therefore be on either the highway or this road, which matters to anyone trying to find a driveway here after dark or to direct a crew to one.
Ruby Lake Resort sits at the top of the road on the highway. The regional district names it as the muster point and a possible reception centre for the southern half of the Egmont evacuation zone, listing 20 guest rooms, a restaurant, parking and internet.
Five acres, two houses, a well and a septic field
The property at 15376 Hallowell Road sold on 6 April 2024 for $1,510,000 after 25 days on the market. The listing record describes five acres, 218,671 square feet, with waterfront access and 146.4 feet of frontage; two separate houses totalling 1,928 square feet, built in 1994; a separate workshop; fruit trees, vegetable beds, ponds and private trails. It is on well water and a septic system, zoned RU5, and the 2023 property tax was $2,921. One family had held it for 36 years.
That is a fair description of the road as a whole. The community plan sets the minimum lakeshore parcel at 1.75 hectares, about 4.3 acres, with 60 metres of lake frontage, so these are acreages rather than a subdivision: a main house, often a second dwelling or a workshop, a well head, a septic field, a shoreline, and a long gap to the next occupied building. Fire response is the Egmont and District department's, Ruby Lake being on its published list of served communities. From the hall at 5592 Egmont Road to Hallowell Road is 6.6 kilometres and 8 minutes of driving, which is the travel time only; the department is paid-on-call, so members reach the hall first. There are no hydrants on this road and the department carries its water in a tanker.
A break-in with a four-month window
The police report published on 5 April 2022 covers a seasonal residence in the 15200 block. The entry was made by cutting the lock off the access gate.
The suspect pried open a door to an outbuilding and stole a number of items including a grey Honda long leg outboard motor and two Cabela brand trail cameras.

The report dates the offence between December 2021 and 30 March 2022, because that is the range the owner could give. The cameras that would have recorded the visit were among the things carried away. Ruby Lake logged two RCMP calls for service in the fourth quarter of 2023, the only quarter the regional district has published. Few calls are made here, and four months is how long a cut lock can stand without anyone reporting it.
Community mailboxes serve this road, and they were broken into on 9 December 2020, in a run of mailbox break-ins across Madeira Park, Garden Bay and Ruby Lake.

An empty house is a condition on most household policies. The insurer expects someone competent to attend on a defined cycle across the heating months, frequently at spacing of four days or less, or the supply closed off and the plumbing emptied.
