The road joins the highway at both ends
Redrooffs Road is a paved two-lane road in Electoral Area B of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. It leaves Highway 101 near Sargeant Bay, follows the shoreline north, and returns to the highway near Mercer Road at the Secret Cove end. The Halfmoon Bay official community plan, Bylaw 675, uses the road as a boundary: the plan area "extends from Wood Bay in the northern part to Sargeant Bay in the southern part, Redrooffs Road in the western part" (page 3).
Civic numbers run from the 7460 block at the south end to 8972 at the fire hall, under postal codes V0N 1Y1, V7Z 1E4 and V7Z 1E7. BC Transit Route 4 is the only bus, stopping at Annex Road, the 7460 block, Colvin Creek, Fawn Road and Eureka Place. Road routing on 12 September 2026 put the middle of the road 15.0 kilometres and 18 minutes from Sechelt Hospital. The RCMP detachment on Teredo Street is about two minutes further.
The province spells it Redroofs and the street signs do not
BC Geographical Names lists Redroofs, one f, as the official name. It is recorded as a Community, defined as "an unincorporated populated place, generally with a population of 50 or more", adopted on 29 August 1979 and placed "south of Halfmoon Bay (Post Office)". The approximate population centre is 49°29'54" north, 123°54'38" west, on map sheet 92G/5. Civic addresses and road signs use the double-f Redrooffs, and real-estate boards a third version, the MLS sub-area "Halfmn Bay Secret Cv Redroofs".
The name came from a resort. Wikipedia describes red-roofed cabins at a former local resort, and the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives the red roofs of summer cottages seen from arriving ships.
We tend to always think of Halfmoon Bay as a street called Redrooffs, and couple of local stores and roadside stands, but it really is much more than that.

Lots laid out in the 1940s
Bylaw 675 dates the subdivision of this corridor to "the 1940's" (page 19), the earliest in the plan area by three decades. The housing here is mixed as a result: small older cabins on undersized lots, and newer houses on Residential C parcels of 8,000 square metres and up, the designation applied from Sargeant Bay to Coopers Green.
Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department Hall 1 stands at 8972 Redrooffs Road. The department is a regional district service covering about 3,000 people, with a full complement of 32 members, a paid full-time chief and a part-time deputy. Coopers Green Regional Park and Coopers Green Hall are on the road, Connor Park is reached through Southwood and Westwood Roads, and the entrance to Sargeant Bay Provincial Park is off it. Commerce runs to roadside stands, among them The Rustic Rooster and Gidora's Garden. The whole length sits inside the Chapman water service area, which the plan runs "along both Redrooffs Road and the Sunshine Coast Highway through to Mercer Road" (page 45).
When Highway 101 shuts, the traffic comes here
On 3 July 2024 at 3:32 p.m. a head-on collision shut Highway 101 at Mercer Road for several hours, and from about 5:30 p.m. drivers were routed around it onto the north end of Redrooffs. On 24 August 2025 a three-vehicle collision in the 7000 block left all three drivers in serious condition, two airlifted to Vancouver General, and the highway did not fully reopen until 11:00 p.m. On 15 October 2025 a motorcyclist was pronounced dead in the 7900 block and the RCMP recorded traffic diverted at Redrooffs Road. On 26 December 2025 a falling tree brought hydro lines down between Trout Lake and Belair Roads until 12:45 p.m.
The road also fails on its own account. It washed out at the Kenyon Creek culvert in November 2021, and closed in both directions from 3 to 18 September 2024 for the permanent culvert replacement.
What has been taken, and what has gone dark
A 16-foot boat and trailer were stolen from the 8600 block on 2 October 2021. In October 2023, after recovering a stolen construction trailer, the RCMP asked for camera footage from Westwood, Wildwood, Eureka and Redrooffs between 3 and 5 a.m., and recorded that the property it came from had been entered more than once. On 8 June 2026 a crash at Hill Road cut power to 3,113 customers in Halfmoon Bay and West Sechelt.

Nearly every household policy sets a maximum interval between inspections of an unoccupied dwelling through the heating season, commonly four consecutive days, and requires a competent person to do them; the alternative is shutting off the water and draining the lines. Wordings differ, so read the clause in your own policy.
